Collection and Inventory of the sea anemones of the Falkland Islands

The dataset is an excel file with records of the locationand preservation method of specimens comprising of 9 species of known sea anemones and 38 specimens of unknown sea anemones, as well as 4 unknown species of hydroids,2 nudibranchs, and 1 stalked jellyfish. The data collection occurred in the Falklands waters in November 2019. These specimens will be taxonomically determined using morphological and genetic data. Specimens of Metridium senile will be used in a worldwide genetic biogeographic study.

Lineage The excel file contains location data and preservation method for 109 physical specimens that were collected by Heather Glon (the Ohio State University) and members/collaborator of the Marine Management Areas Darwin Plus project led by SAERI. Individual specimens were collected by hand via SCUBA diving (<20m) or by the Falkland Fisheries Department using deep water sampling methods (<500m). For Metridium, 31 specimens were collected. Eight other species (SOMETHING MISSING HERE?) and had 2-4 specimens collected, and 38 specimens are of unknown identification. Four hydroid specimens, three nudibranch specimens, and one stalked jellyfish specimen were also collected to confirm identifications. Specimens were all preserved in ethanol or 10% formalin. These will be examined and genetic data analyzed at the Ohio State University (USA), the American Museum of Natural History (USA), and at Huinay Scientific Field Station (Chile). Genetic data when published will be uploaded to GenBank. Morphological data will be added to the current dataset and within future publications.
