DPLUS083 Soil Classes

This soil class dataset was generated as part of the Darwin Plus 083 project ‘Soil map and online database as climate change mitigation tools’, which was funded by the Darwin Initiative through UK Government and ran from April 2018 to October 2020. Additional layers for physical and chemical soil properties, erosion extent, erosion risk, peat depth and peatland extent are also available on the data portal.

Lineage Soil classification was carried out by an independent consultant by applying the World Reference Base (WRB) combined with his own experience of Falklands soils to the field descriptions and laboratory results. The layer was generated through Digital Soil Mapping with spatial covariates and the soil classifications, which were linked using a trained neural network model.
