Existing bottom fishing areas and areas closed for fishing within the limits of SEAFO area

The dataserie comprises 4 datasets: 1) Existing bottom fishing areas (all Gears), 2) Existing bottom fishing areas (set Longliness only), 3) Areas closed to all Gears and 4) Areas closed to all Gears except Pots/Longliness. All these areas have been defined in Conservation Measure 30/15 on Bottom Fishing Activities and Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems in the SEAFO Convention Area adopted: 03 December 2015 and entered into Force: 15 February 2016

Lineage The bottom fishing areas and areas closed to fishing depicted in the datasets have been created based on the Conservation Measure 30/15 on Bottom Fishing Activities and Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems in the SEAFO Convention Area. According to the measure fishing areas have been established based on information concerning bottom fishing activities in the period of 1987 to July 2011 (Article 4). The coordinates for existing fishing areas are defined in Annex 1 (A and B) and coordinates for closed areas are defined in Annex 2 (A and B).
