Compiled list of sources and contact information for 'All_Inshore_Whale_Sightings_1940-2015.shp,' a GIS database of whale sightings used in 'Return of the Whales in the Falkland Islands' waters' (Frans & Aug? 2016, in prep). It is sorted by observation type (i.e., local knowledge, capture, survey, and opportunistic observations), with general details on the spatial and temporal coverage of each source (i.e., inshore or offshore; years or decades), the names of data owners and custodians, and contact information to obtain the original data. Each source has an individual identification number, which corresponds with the 'All Inshore Whale Sightings' GIS shapefile, also stored in the SAERI IMS Center. More information on how these data were used can be found in 'Return of the Whales in the Falkland Islands' waters' (Frans & Aug? 2016, in prep). This map was produced as part of the Darwin Plus- funded project, 'Marine Spatial Planning for the Falkland Islands' (July 2014-July 2016), and the Falkland Islands Environmental Studies Budget project, 'Mapping whale distribution around the Falkland Islands using best available knowledge'.
