| Lineage | The satellite images were processed to account for satellite noise, the topography of the landscape and atmospheric interference. For the marine classification, further processing was required to reduce the effects of water surface reflection and the decay of light through the water column. Following the same principles as the terrestrial analysis, each marine-processed image were segmented into meaningful objects and then grouped into similar characteristics. No applicable marine survey data was available, so a simple and robust procedure was approached in separating the vegetated from non-vegetated classes. A simple, but robust, two-tiered classification approach was adopted, where the vegetated and non-vegetated areas were first separated and then defined into probable depth zones. A further seabed cover, ???Reef (probable)???, was extracted as its own benthic class. |
