Peat profiles and long-term carbon accumulation rates

The aim of the research was to measure the range of long-term Falkland Island carbon accumulation rates in peatlands and the occurrence of fires on centennial and millennial timescales. Two peat profiles were recovered from whitegrass peatlands (Green Pond, max. depth c. 430 cm; Goose Green, max. depth c. 360 cm) and one peat profile from a Sphagnum magellanicum peatland (Kingsford Valley, max. depth c. 245 cm).
